Oneill warranty

I have a few small tears starting around the neck and the inner lining is fraying by the shoulders of my oneill mutant shoulder entry wetsuit. Alton told me that I could get it repaired for free at oceaner in burnaby as long as it was within the 1 year warranty, so I checked it out and the suit was 3 days shy of 1 year old so I gave oceaner a call. After they looked at it they told me it was going to be a very difficult repair and would request a new suit from oneill. Oneill have agreed and are sending me a new suit, which I'm very happy about. I'm just writing this post to make everyone aware of the oneill warranty and to get your suit in for repairs just before its first birthday.

Thanks again for the advise Alton!

O'Neill Rocks!

I too had my wetsuit (Mutant) replaced. In fact I only paid the difference to upgrade to the O'Neill PyroTech ($50).

they are not making any money with Alton (might as well sponsor him), 200 sessions in 1 year ... they just look at it, the tatters of it, after 1 year of use, head down and grab a new one. ;)

They'll make a kevlar one just for him,

Next time it's 1.6m, Alton, come with your kite to WB (not heavy to carry), forget about Ambleside, we'll go to the last break and get some waves, if session is not 100% we'll try again (3 out 5 sessions are good), you'll see the difference ... don't be hiding (Ambleside is history, Acadia at high tide rollers just pass by as it's a 8ft break, but at WB at high tide it works when HB is over 1m).

Wb is messy when 25 knots, but a big kite on 20 knots, hb over 1m and tide over 11 ft should do it.

I would recommend lower tides for kiting WB, once you get closer in to the beach the wind starts to fluke out as it heads up over the cliff.

I estimate I put in over 300 sessions (winter, spring, summer and fall) with my O'Neill PyroTech since I got it Nov 14, 2013.

Great to hear Oneill stands by their product.

Would anyone have advice re: an Oneill Mutant vs a Rip Curl Flash Bomb?

They both fit me well, it would be my primary suit for kiting in Squamish.

I like the removable hood the Mutant offers, it also feels a little less restrictive. The Flash Bomb hood feels more comfortable, but would probably ride w/ it pulled back for part of the summer.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

@RogerS

I have a pair of Flash bomb boots and my son has a Flash Bomb hood with bib. I love my boots. Never thought a lining could make such a difference, but it does - super warm and cozy (very noticeable in cold water in winter). I have used Neil Pryde suits exclusively for more than 20 years, but the Flash Bomb lining will have me look seriously at a Rip Curl Flash Bomb winter suit. My son also really likes his hood/bib and the salesgirl at Surf Sisters in Tofino said she can wear her thinner more flexible 5/4 Flash Bomb suit all winter because of the extra warmth of the Flash Bomb lining.

I don't think the flash bomb has any smooth skin so in wind sports it will be a lot colder due to evaporative cooling. If you layer a wind breaker like a ProMotion ExoSkin over it though it solves the problem.

Non smooth skin suits last longer and are much less fragile.

I too am loyal to NP suits as I like the ankle straps and drains.
