Maybe better access for windsurfers. See http://www.bellinghamherald.com/news/lo ... 10912.html

FYI:
I was told by the local guys that if u only park one inch on the pavement they tow u within minutes..... a dedicated neighbor wants to play sheriff....

Lots of brake-ins too...so never leave you stuff in your car

Where is this parking anyway? Some access closer for windsurf gear? I just park in the parking lot when I go.

So I guess the city bought those 2 houses at the end of the road and they are going to bulldoze them and put in parking and access down there?

Seems like it'll still be a rough access to lug windsurfing gear because those houses are still up high on the bluff. For kiters it's a tiny bit easier than just parking in the existing parking lot.

Here is a list of some of the takeaway points:

Nobody likes the name Whirlwind Beach
Restrooms, pit toilets or porta potties were high on the list of things that people want.
The city doesn't have the money for restrooms. They will investigate pit toilets (think Bay View out house).
The city doesn't have the ability to connect to city sewer. The city banned all additional connections to city sewer from outside city limits.
You can't build a bathroom or shower without a way to discharge the water ie drainfield or sewer connection.
The city is seemingly stoked to have the kiteboarding community center where it is.

Other points of interest:

The city doesn't own the trail down or the beach where we pump kites. But that land has a permanent easement.
The city may put a sidewalk on the side of Locust avenue, instead of parking (as it is now)
The Locust parking lot will be lighted. And may have a gate closed at night.
