Heavy smoke in Squamish and getting worse. Cannot see mountains from middle of industrial park at this time. This will probably effect the thermals today.

Wind has gone fluky again despite a good forecast. I wonder if it's due to the aforementioned local effect.

air quality just lowered to 4-"moderate health risk" probably due to the inflow of the wind. I don't think the fire is under control yet so we can expect the same for several days I would presume. Fire is 67km west of Pemberton in the Elaho valley.

Isn't there a fire out in the fraser valley also?

Could be a smokey week.
Craig.

I hope the fire is put out soon and the air clears for all who live in the valley.

I wonder if the warmer temps aren't creating more convection clouds mid-afternoon (2 pm to 4 pm) which in turn are disrupting the normally smooth thermal. Funny part is the two warm days last weekend (Sat and Sun) were both pretty 'smooth' ~

c36, yes the formation of cumulus clouds create gusty conditions I believe due to them blocking the sun which curbs the thermal. Dry air tends to not form clouds. Read weather for glider pilots or something to that effect. This smoke may be bad for similar reasons.
