Cypress Mountain 2019/ 2020

When it's absolutely too cold

by drh » Thu Dec 12, 2019 5:21 pm

First powder skiing of the season with about 12 cm of new snow at the top of the Eagle Chair first thing this morning - and about 4 cm at the bottom. It was snowing steadily the whole time I was there and I was able to ski to my car in the parking lot. Fun morning. :o

Had some nice powder turns this morning. Snowing quite heavily most of the time. There was about 10-12 cm of untracked snow on upper and lower Jayzee Jay for those who didn't mind going under the rope.

Fabulous powder morning at Cypress with 20 CM in 24 hours. Lots of fresh tracks on Cascade, Moons, Slash, Upper and Lower Rainbow, Tomcat, Top Gun, and the Olympic run.

Avalanche.ca was calling for 20-30 cm last night and 40-60 cm today, with the freezing level going to 1600 m this afternoon. When I arrived there was sleet at the bottom and snowing higher up. Had two great hours of fresh tracks on the fat skis this morning. There was about 5 cm of powder at the bottom and 25 cm higher up. Some nice turns on Upper Bowen, Horizon, Humpty, Jasey Jay and others, then later was first down Tomcat when the Sky Chair opened around 10 am. I was the third one down Top Gun which was superb. I left around 11 am and there were three police cars and three fire trucks coming up the Cypress Bowl Road with their sirens and lights on. No idea what they were responding to. Perhaps someone else knows.

Yes, great powder morning on Cypress. All the front face runs on Lions (Bowen, Slash, and Moons)are in good shape now!

Day 4 - My first snowboard session of the season = POW day !!!

-4C was perfect (not sticky). 10cm to 40cm untracked for 4 runs but remained soft afterwards.

Usual suspects = Jerry + Clay + Rob W + Doug + Brian C + Benito.

Fun riding with Tony/LeopardSkin, Mike, Heather and Johnny

Today was the best pow day of the season.

It was rated 1 car. Only saw 1 car in the ditch!
