Cypress 2016/17

When it's absolutely too cold

Great powder turns this morning at Cypress. Although the Cypress report said they only had 7 cm on their 6 am report you have to remember that they usually under report their snowfall. I checked Mt. Seymour at 6 am and they reported 23 cm of new snow - which is about what Cypress actually got. It was often sleet at the base and snowing above that for the first two hours. Had some fabulous powder runs on Upper and lower Bowen, Rainbow, Moons, Humpty Dumpty, T-33 and Tomcat. Fat skis rule! It started to get sticky at the bottom of Rainbow around 10:30 but things were starting to get tracked out then - just about the time they opened up the Sky Chair. Surprisingly few people on the slopes this morning but I'd had enough by 11 am and it was starting to get warmer. :)

Seymour is stiff groomers on carving skis this morning - sounds like there was rain to the top last night ~all good (only had a hour window). Enjoy the day!

Cypress got 6 cm. The fresh snow sounds inviting but the crowds and wind don't.

Some nice turns this morning in the sunshine. Very good grooming for the most part on Eagle and OK on Lions. A few cm of fresh snow off piste over frozen (rather firm) terrain. Did Cascade (good) and the Olympic (quite good) runs for the first time this season. The usual regulars were there except for Alton. Good to see Francis for the first time.

It started to get crowded by 10 and I left at 10:30 am. By then parking lots 1, 2 & 3A were full and 3B was half full with a line of cars bumper to bumper stretching down the road well past the nordic area. It probably would be about a 30 minute wait just to park for those at the end of the line - if any spaces were left by then! :

Awesome knee to thigh deep powder everywhere today. No lineups all morning but lots of people still arriving. Legs will be rubber soon anyway!
