Cypress 2016/17

When it's absolutely too cold

Day 62 - Marc and I scored a POW day. 5 cm of heavy fresh everywhere so we chased virgin snow before it got tracked out. Occasionally, the fog was thick but overall visibility was very acceptable. No rain just snow!

Best of all we got first chair and first tracks on Sky Chair (which was closed Wednesday) and rewarded with 15cm of virgin POW on runs as well as in the trees :D :D :D

Good powder day at Sky Chair today. Too foggy I couldn't see you guys. And broke my phone couldn't text you. I survived the day without a phone and texting.

Thanks for the link Tony. Looks like fun. Mokka and I plan to be there unless it's raining on the hill.

Great powder day at Cypress! Did multiple laps of untracked powder on Moons and Slash. 26 cm in 24 hours according to their 11 am website report. Very few people on the slopes this morning. Visibility was ok on the lower runs for the most part. Went up Sky chair just after it opened around 9:30 AM, and had first tracks down Tom Cat, but the visibility was poor even in the trees there. The snow started to get heavy by 10:30 with the warm temperatures, but most of the powder was skied out by then. Terrific session on the fat skis. :D :D

Day 63 - Great POW day on Cypress. Some challenging fog and occasional rain but overall worthwhile. Treated with 15 cm of virgin POW in the trees on Sky Chair. Very heavy snow so it got tracked out by Rob F, Marc and I (snowboarding) by 10:30am. Fun, fun, fun ...

After a rather inauspicious start to the day, we ended up with a fabulous powder session. Eagle and Raven opened at 8:40 AM so I headed straight from Eagle to Black on Black (the Raven chair had been closed for the last three days). Tricky conditions as there was a significant, relatively dense layer over several cm's of softer snow - skiable but you had to really pay attention and work it. Then did Crazy Raven which was ok with a thin layer of fresh snow over a smooth groomed surface. Went to Lions and did one run on Humpty, then caught Sky chair just after it opened. It was a totally different world there. Did two fantastic laps on Ripcord with about 20 cm of soft powder, blue skies and sunshine - a rare combination! :D :D :D

Day 64 - Snowboarding with Roxstock, LeopardSkin, Jerry and Doug (on skis). Coyote 7 was awfully crusty so we moved over to Sky Chair for an awesome morning of POW - 15 to 20 cm in the trees.

2.5 hours of POW was followed by 5 hours of Brewski Fest beer tasting with 8mdude, Jerry, LeopardSkin, Bandito, Brian and Mokka. What a riot!
