Cypress 2016/17

When it's absolutely too cold

by drh » Mon Dec 05, 2016 2:10 pm

More great powder turns on Cypress this morning with about 20 cm of new snow. Did upper & lower Bowen, Moons, Cascade & the Olympic runs amongst others. With the great start to the season I've been skiing more days than usual (8 out of 11). I plan to rest up for the next two days before the next dump arrives. :D

Rob W and I arrived late (10:30am), shared a chair with Brian (and family) then hunted around for untracked snow.

At 11:30 the Sky Chair just opened so Rob and I (both on snowboards) scored first tracks in 20-25 cm of DRY powder. Visibility was poor so I took a few tumbles but remained completely dry. Sky Chair was good for about 8 runs before I called it a day ... a great day!

Cypress was snowing from bottom to top of mountain. In fact, North Vancouver is currently snowing heavily.

Should have stayed longer Alton. We skied the Sky Chair from 130 to 3 and it just kept getting better. Tomcat was awesome with thigh deep powder and good vis in the trees. Had to quit when our legs said No More!
Hoping for sun up there tomorrow.

Why did I come to work today? 47cm in 24 hours and sun in the forecast, what an idiot.

It was a spectacular bluebird morning at Cypress. Full parking lot now and the runs are skied out, but plenty of great lines left off piste.
We're heading home for lunch now.
Ps- road is in great shape today. Bare and wet.

Great morning workout for 1.5 hour at sunny Cypress and then a hot steam bath session to calm the nerves and still on time for meeting.

Day 7 at Cypress. Snowboarded on hard pack groomers on Eagle runs with Clay, 8mdude and Marc for 1.5 hours. Jerry and Rob W were on skis. Bandito on snowboard.

After lunch Jerry and I snowboarded down Olympic for 3 epic runs - bottomless dry power virtually untracked.

Finally a day with excellent bluebird visibility :D
