When there's absolutely no wind

by gabrielb » Sat Aug 27, 2016 3:45 am

At least it got to 0.8m and it will hold , sisters maxed out at 18 knots, halibut bank at 20 knots maxed out as well.
Local wind under 12 knots means glassy conditions, but should ramp up hopefully but because sand heads is so low I think Southern strait is all you get, + no West wind here at marpole, airport ...there should be at least a gust for local windsurfing.

It means WB is the place, Aside is not at 0.8m at 6am (maybe at 9am when local turns on and incoming tide, unless WB is too fun to move.)

See you there.

6 to 8, cross chop, not clean. Low tide after 7 am did not help...could tell the 1m, with Vero. Felt like 0.5m.
Decided to go aside, lions bridge gridlocked, went back to wb 9-11am. Tide was good by 10am , still cross waves, unorganized, a waste of 1m, maybe howe sound wind?

A few rides at the end joined by SUP and son surfing, but tricky to get clean rides... Next time. Worst session, crap.

Saturna turned 20 knots SE.

Dang, I think west van was the call. I had a fever so I was bed ridden today. My friend went to 25th ave, said there were two hrs of waves, but surely Aside 8am was the call? When tide goes below 8ft at WB there is not enough water to allow solid waves to make it in, too shallow. Maybe we get another SE soon

Ha, GB you came back! I stayed for another 20 mins after you left and the waves became really weird, breaking in two different directions. I called it a day.

Looks like summer is done. Thursday morning , Sandy point/Saturna all SE over 20knots, tide looks good for Point Roberts. Forecast will move but the SE will surely be there somewhere this week.
No need to cross the Lions gate bridge ... :D

Point Roberts...
SE wind peak for the week is Thursday 11am. Saturna/Locust/Sandy Point even PR peaking at the same time (great to help build all the way to the beach). 4 ft tide does not matter as there is a left on low tide ;) , looks like a small wave session to me 11am-1pm.

Olympic trail if it switches SSE (4-6ft tide just right for the sand bank) ... I prefer it, it's hassle free and quick.

Given last year similarities, expect 0 NW's for the next 8 months (with the exception of the odd storm), i.e. WB/Aside no more surf for quite a while.

Adam, text me your email (Nov trip). thx.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even on mild SE forecast sisters is at 31 knots. WE NEVER had a NW with sisters at 31 for this year (except once, maybe twice). what a joke for NW's, only SE's. SE's can jump over 30 with a weak forecast.. extrapolating it will be 40 by thursday (maybe not) ... expecting the same for Southern strait.

Went with friend to check Olympic trail at 1-2pm.

7-8ft tide.

Sandy point 12-15, Saturna at 20 knots South.

Not enough , a few small breaks. This break depends on Sandy Point, it has to be 20-30 knots South. Saturna does not affect it unless SW.
9ft tide is the upper tide for surfing, as any higher = rocks at beach. Still breaks good at 40 meters from beach on sandy bottom. Next time.
