When there's absolutely no wind

by gabrielb » Sun Apr 12, 2015 10:35 pm

I ll be there 6am. Its going to be mainly a surfing day, Tofino like conditions. Intermediate + sup.
Ulu have full wetsuit gloves and booties, bring shortest board you are comfortable with, it may be windy but i don't think it will be an issue. HB 1 meter +. See you there, if there is no free parking, there is a parking lot before wb.

Ulu: try your 7'6 6-8am at WB. No SUP at wb as it will be windy.

If you want SUPing after, you may try Ambleside (9am-11am) :

SUP will be good 9am-11am Ambleside (pebble side/sandy side 8ft tide may be good for sandy side if hb 0.9+).

Thanks for the heads up! I may try ambleside if the wind is light in the morning. Hopefully this forecast holds after all the the local skunkage.

Richi,
before heading to Ambleside at 8:30am, take a look at cameras:

http://www.kiteboardbc.com/webcam/westvan/
http://www.hollyburnsailingclub.ca/webcam.aspx

at 8ft tide and incoming sandy side needs 0.9hb to break, pebble side should start breaking past 10ft, Capilano river should always be breaking (watch the river current flow before heading to the sand bank, make sure you are comfortable with it, row sideways to get out of current, not against current, if it's strong).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sups:

If in the morning you see the typical skunkage (i.e less than 15 knots at Jericho), then head to Wreck Beach instead of Ambleside with your SUP.

Sorry for the repetition, otherwise you'll miss it as surf will last 4 hours (Johnstone strait NW forecast peaks at 6am, gone by 9am), all done by 11am. If wind dies at 8am WB would be great for SUPing.
downgraded slightly, 5am is the peak of the forecast, if you feel you can handle it just go to WB (last advice, don't ever let your board be in front of you when facing surf)

Richi, it's downgraded, so go to WB anytime after 6am

and more downgrade at 9pm:

all that in just 24 hours. I guess they can't forecast 24 hours into the future anymore.
Good for beginner SUP. Ulu, yes bring your SUP to WB.

C36, Richi, Ulu, Slappy,

if halibut bank is 0.7meters at 4:45am (that's when the 4am reading is posted) then I'll go 6am to 8am.

6:00 am? You mean there is another 6 o'clock? I guess this is why I'm not a surfer, I don't function well at this early hour. I will set the alarm and see what happens, I also rolled my ankle at soccer tonight so will see how puffy it is in the morning. If I don't see you in the morning Gabriel, hopefully see you windsurfing later on in the day.
