Hi guys the wave forecast for Jordan River is AMAZING for this weekend. 5star rating on magic seaweed! I’ll likely be heading there late Friday night so I can wake up to glassy bombs! Check out the forecast and drool.

Hey Jay, just wondering how it was? I was worried there might be a bit too much south in the swell to squeeze down the strait. Did you make it over?

after a big storm and wind shutdown.

For NW you get the same at Ambleside, for SE I guess it's Columbia... glad C36 is awake.

130km fetch, energy takes 2+ hours to dissipate (2mHB).
PR 35km fetch is too short a distance that when it shuts down, you only have 1hour or less of glassy surf if lucky.

After winning the prestigious US Open of Surfing Pro Junior title at Huntington Pier this past summer, and finishing with a respectable 3rd place finish at Kiama, NSW, Australia last year, it was nice to see Cody (aka the 'man-child') make it to the quarter finals at the World Junior Championships this January (especially given he favours bigger conditions), but sad to see him taken out by a penalty from accidental infraction (at 1:28 in the video below), particularly given that it was his last year at the juniors.

It's in Netflix... they took a flight to Iceland and drove North to get a few waves. They got stuck in a cabin for days. I always fast forward to the surf and skip the 'blah blah blah'.

Good to know. It was the surfing under the glow of the northern lights (2:39) that caught my attention - Ethan has yet to see the northern lights in person and to do it while surfing would be awesome. The barreling right (1:44) was also interesting.

Pretty gusty and SW so I waited patiently for sandbars then scored the last hour of the evening shift. Steady WSW 18-20 with the usual Spanish Banks chop. Good on 12m + surfboard with 4 other kiters.

That was some weird unstable wind. Waited for about an hour then headed to Wreck Beach for a SUP. Nice and warm for Feb.

It's always good to look at numbers the day after.

Best waves were at 11pm, 0.9mHB:

Can 14knots and weak local wind produce 0.9HB? no

Is Ballenas responsible for 0.9HB under 22 knots? no.

When all aligned it's sisters the deciding factor. It takes 3 hours of good wind (28@7pm, 24@8pm, 20-25@9pm) and that energy will roll slowly South after, and Ballenas will keep that energy at 22 knots@11pm. If Sisters is under 18 knots it will never reach past 0.8mHB no matter the local wind. Also you will notice no power in the wave if sisters is not on.
