Summer Swell in Tuff Townan extended July weekendT1 – SUP - North Chesterman (2019 July 25) Refreshing. Decided on North Chesterman (playful clean flooding tide peaks and shoulders) over South Chesterman (cove only), Cox Bay (lots of whitewater) and Long Beach (modest and closing out). Fun open sections at the south and middle and a pushy little wedge in the lee of the rocks that local shortboard surfer ripping it up said was created by rip pushing against the wave wrapping the rock island. Delicious sunshine after the rain last night. Campfire dinner at Bella Pacific.

T2 – SUP - Cox Bay (2019 July 26)Busy. Glad I took advantage of North Chesterman yesterday as it was not an option today (flat) and South Chesterman was only working in the cove. Cox Bay looked fun, but was busy. Took about 20 seven second west swell on the head getting out then had to wait for the first rideable wave once on the outside. Then things dropped into place and there were lots of rides on offer. Some memorable. Rain rolled in just after I got packed up.

T3 – SUP - Long Beach (2019 July 27)Presents. Decided to homestead at Incinerator Rock today. Arrived early. Presents included sunshine, parking spot with a view, breakfast atop Incinerator Rock, clean mid-morning waves (stirred up yesterday and this morning, but settled), boggy-board session on my new-to-me dolphin pro-model, and beach bike ride to Schooner Cove. Started at tinnies and worked my way down to Lovekin. Two swell angles often crossing each other plus some background south swell made for an ‘odd’ set-up but there were still rides on offer.

T4 – wind-SUP - Long Beach (2019 July 27)Afternoon. Northwest clearing wind was just enough to keep most off the water, but just enough to SUP-sail with confidence in the background south swell (there was some shorebreak of consequence on the mid-low tide). The SUP-sail session was all upside (no douchings and no poundings). One kite up south of Lovekin who looked to be making it work and one late afternoon launch above Lovekin - not so much. Took a quick look-see at South Chesterman on the way back into town and two were out windsurfing (looked like BrassMonkey and one other). Long Beach looked to have more wave (typical) and more wind (atypical) today. Dinner at Schooners upstairs (didn’t know they had an upstairs).

T5 – SUP – Cox Bay (2019 July 28)Land ’O. Fog burned off just after taking to the water to make a blue bird session! Worked the south end of the bay, up past Land ‘O Lefts (mostly lefts, but a few open rights too). Had it all to myself (as the fog sent most in). Practice-size waves, but fun just the same! Did the hike to the view point. Dinner at Ocean Side Grill.

T6 – SUP – Cox Bay (2019 July 29)Patience. Up early to get wet before travelling home. Clear sunrise, then fog rolled in, but you could still see enough to make it workable. Smallest day so far so decided to try and work the right at the north headland. Caught three real rights (all clean) and a few dumping background south swell. Then headed down to the centre peak and caught a few lefts to balance things out. Always nice to get a session in on the travel day.
