Olympic trail (under 9ft tide after 5pm). Just perfect tide conditions for SW. Saturna around 25 knots SW should work for that break.

kiters may get there without a bike.

What tide are you thinking? Every time I've kited Iona it's just swell over there, no breaking waves. I think you would need a very low tide for it to break there and a very low tide means a long walk kite or not.

When I kite Iona I stay more on the break on the North Arm Jetty as I don't bother with Iona below 2.6m.

yes, tide makes that break at the tip of Iona.

Whether it's from 4ft to 9ft tide I don't know (my guess, ebb/flood don't matter). I am thinking it's 9 ft tide and lower, that sand bank forces the NW rollers to break (deep water to shallow water) before the rocky jetty. Kiting there may mean a long distance from the other side, but upwind by kite looks easier than upwind by windsurfing.

Getting there may mean loading a bike in car, and carrying for 5km by bike my surfboard (because left trail is under pipe, I image it should be protected from wind).

The whitewater was very significant (there was a ride for sure) from the UBC lookout last time I checked on a NW ... given that I was done with WB, it probably means double the size than WB.

Like I said, tide makes that break. I'll do a few solo sessions this summer and post.

Just looking for 45 minutes of a perfect break (tide, wind decides), chest/head high, then I am happy ... does it happen locally, yes.

Since there can't be 2 gabes beaches, can we call this one unicorn beach if your discovery comes true?

Richi, I don't think you'll find blue water at Iona, or unicorns ... what you'll find is brown water and *** ... I wouldn't even call it a beach, we'll name it "desperation" bank.

Richi, soccer at 7:30pm Wed's, outdoors, Point grey highschool, turf, send me an email if you can join (nice and easy).

It's a 5 ft tide.
So let's make it 8ft-2ft tide to have any surf. Surf will wrap.

Talking to myself, but it will be here for the next guy, when reading this thread.

Session 1: Wavesailing at South Chesterman (Friday, May 5).
Clouds. Arrived early to cover the peak of the forecast wind. Quick look-sees at Flo, Wick, LB and then ended up at SC for wavesailing. Light early on, then it picked up when Jessie and BWD took to the water. Saw BWD crack a big cheshire cat smile on the first wave in! Nice! Crew of Redbaron, BWD, Udder and myself had the place to ourselves for most of the day. Saw BWD gracious roll off set wave for kiter; Jesse wavesail on the leeward side of the sail and Udder riding at the gateway to Rosie (again)! West wind was puffy and shifty but it settled a little when it went NW. Chilly on the hands at first, then it seemed to warm up (or my core body temp lowered). Some rides, some jumps, some waves, some smacks, some swims and lots of smiles! Fun day!

Session 2: Morning glass SUP at Long Beach with BWD and Udder (Saturday, May 6). Sweet long party wave right with Udder!

Session 3: SUPsail at Long Beach (Saturday, May 6). Thumpy. Light wind and big waves made for a dicey mix. Caught a few rides and got rejected a few times. Got so light I decided to go check out South Chesterman.

Session 4: Sunset wavesail at South Chesterman (Saturday, May 6). Cool down session started to heat up as Tom (first DTL rides), Redbaron and BWD joined in the fun. Small brother version of yesterday but just as much fun!

Session 5: Morning SUP at Long Beach (Sunday, May 7). Smaller, softer waves up at Tinies made for easy out and smooth rides in - that section was fun! Mix bag of different swells mid-beach with round swell proving hard to catch mixed with large dumping swell - that section I struggled with. Nice to get wet on the travel day and enjoy the last of the sun as it started to cloud over.

C36, LB looks fun
Locally, 0.7m at HB at 11pm .. If 0.8m-0.9m at 5am then I'll make my way to WB.
