Richi,
before heading to Ambleside at 8:30am, take a look at cameras:
http://www.kiteboardbc.com/webcam/westvan/http://www.hollyburnsailingclub.ca/webcam.aspxat 8ft tide and incoming sandy side needs 0.9hb to break, pebble side should start breaking past 10ft, Capilano river should always be breaking (watch the river current flow before heading to the sand bank, make sure you are comfortable with it, row sideways to get out of current, not against current, if it's strong).

Sups:
If in the morning you see the typical skunkage (i.e less than 15 knots at Jericho), then head to Wreck Beach instead of Ambleside with your SUP.
Sorry for the repetition, otherwise you'll miss it as surf will last 4 hours (Johnstone strait NW forecast peaks at 6am, gone by 9am), all done by 11am. If wind dies at 8am WB would be great for SUPing.
downgraded slightly, 5am is the peak of the forecast, if you feel you can handle it just go to WB (last advice, don't ever let your board be in front of you when facing surf)
