if at 4 am you see Saturna at 25 knots SE then go at 8 am (11ft tide), but don't expect much.

If at 4 am Saturna is below 25 knots.. sleep. no waves for friday peak at 9 am (3 knots over 4am).

nothing else for 7 days. looks like saturna will be 21 knots at 4am by forecast, sleepy time.

going to westport this weekend for the first time ever. forecast looks great sunday morning. just wondering if anyone has any tips or info for me as it's my first time there? major hazards to be aware out of the ordinary? favourite spot?

also looking for a place to camp (tent). any preference?

thanks!

all I know, small jetties on the right (groins), there is a current inland, so you can't paddle much out, short rides.
centre beach, great when you have big days.
main jetty, like any open beach on the West coast.

If you have a good time post back. Otherwise we'll assume the usual for Westport

Surf is pretty good there. Really tough to find camp spots. We camped behind a school one night, and I think another night we chanced it and camped close to the beach by halfmoon bay ( I think it's called).
The groins is in my opinion the best place to surf when it's working. Easy paddle from the jeddy and nice peeling lefts. Locals were pretty chill. Out by the long jetty closer to open ocean might be ok on smaller swell but on large swell it was lumpy, and very disorganized. Halfmoon bay beach break looked really tempting but it's a heaving shore pound that looks like it could easily snap boards, and body parts. The only hazards at the groins is the current if you go far out. It wouldn't suck you out to sea or anything, but it's just something to look out for.
Have fun.
