Philippines surf

When there's absolutely no wind

Day 3 of surfing on Siargao island (after 7 traffic filled days in Manila) and I have just one photo of the waves for you guys. Predominantly the swell is 0.6-0.8m @9s from trade wind swell but the reefs certainly make good use of it, with 4-6ft faces on the good sets. Lots of refraction going on I suppose. Not easy to take photos except for cloud 9, since all other breaks are a boat ride away.. more to come.

Looks great Keelan. Get some barrels, and keep pics coming of the break. Must be nice surfing without being wrapped in 6mm rubber. Carry on.

Day 42 on Siargao, and the surf has been steady. The SW offshore winds have switched to NE onshore about a week or two ago with the changing of the seasons, meaning early mornings or sheltered spots are now the rule. Standout sessions were during Typhoon Haima during middle of October giving us a few days of very large memorable surf. Snapped my first board in half on the second day of this swell, I am sure dozens more boards were sacrificed. Predominantly the breaks are boat access which makes filming a challenge. Sea and air temp hovering around 30C..

Photo of my camera's viewing screen because Olympus has proprietary cables and SD cards, sigh.

KD, awesome surf break, and probably no wetsuit. Getting colder here, transition will be tough. All the same in yvr, probably 40/50 days of rain

How are the crowds there? The top photo of Cloud 9 looks as thick as the best Indo breaks, and all other things being equal I think I would prefer to go back there, but if the spots in the photos are <10 guys out I might give the Philippines a look for my 40th birthday pass trip. If not it's back to Sumbawa for surf and kite.

Vancouver's waste water treatment plant is our main sponsor for local breaks :?

Nice Keelan. Looks amazing. Can you share the rapture of your first tube with us? Don't need the gory details if you didn't make it out, just the feeling of being in there...if it didn't happen yet, then more of those pics are just as good. Carry on.
