Whidbey Island Monday

When there's absolutely no wind

by Chris Klohn » Mon Apr 04, 2016 7:36 am

Smith Building quickly now too :D JWSP looking great for wind and surf this morning. Hopefully those that had the day off are just rolling into the parking lot now. If you weren't up early checking the actuals and on the road already I wouldn't bother. JWSP isn't a forgiving spot for the half committed as the wind window is usually pretty narrow. A late start with indecision usually ends in frustration..........been there many times myself

Big ramp up and tightening pressure gradient over the past hour through Juan de Fuca Strait. Race Rocks and Smith now both gusting over 40  JWSP should see a nice bump up very quickly. I would guess 6-8 meter kites with 6-8' wave faces :D

Big winds all day forecast now! Get going now if you haven't left already. It's going to be a good one down there today. Actuals have been solid since first light with lots more wind to come.

Hein bank is 4ft@5sec at 750am, plus local wind all the way to beach.

I'll make a note, we'll try with Ulu, that wanted to go when in town, and KD on a weekend with strong West.

+ there is a jetty farther North,

Looks solid still as of 11:45am. I see Sheringham has just jumped up into the West 30+ mph range. This is usually a good sign for Race Rocks, Smith and Whidbey to jump as well in that order as the gradient tightens through JDFS. 5 feet @ 5 seconds for Buoy 46088 upwind. Should equate to nice head high plus waves at JWSP :D

Good luck George! Hopefully she holds another couple of hours for you. I'm guessing you were busy this morning and couldn't get out first thing? Post tonight and let me know how it went. Snowing too hard today to flyfish up here today  Gotta love spring in the Interior!

Coming up on 12 straight hours of 25+ mph west winds  Thought it would have backed off a few hours ago. George, you must be loving the low tide and spaced out chest high waves
