Tofino Weekend

When there's absolutely no wind

by Tony360 » Mon Apr 27, 2015 1:00 pm

I went to Tofino for 4 days over the last weekend. Unfortunately my tradition of getting skunked for wind there still holds. The best I got was some grievously underpowered runs in the whitewater on a 10 and surfboard, not enough wind to get significantly upwind or out the back of the waves which were in the 8' range at Cox Bay that day. Surf was pretty fun though.

There is also some footage of 3rd Ave in there.

Just as we were leaving, the wind came up to 25-30 mph from the SE. It was side onshore at Long Beach, definitely kiteable with small messy wind waves that reminded me of that White Rock session on January 18. Sadly we had to rush to catch the ferry.

Hey Tony, nice video, I like the stuff from third as well, what day was that? What kind of surf board are you using and what size is it?

Nice clean waves.
I spent 10 days there this winter. Kited 2 days, 1 hour NW on first day, 1 hour very sketchy SE on the second day.
They weren't consecutive days. I'd love to score another NW session. Thanks for sharing.

Pacific sands is cool too.

Hey Michael,

That day at Third was March 29 I believe. Lots of windsurfers and kiters out that day.

The surfboard is a 5'10 Al Merrick K-Small Wave (Surftech). It's made for surfing, not kiting but works well for both.

Yeah, great video as usual Tony, you've had lots of them. Awesome music choice too, The Orwells, solid rock and roll song. :D

Thanks Tony, I figured it wasn't for kiting. I'm looking a surfboard that I can use as a wake surf board and a kiteboard. That one looks like something I'm after.

Great Vid! I spent 10 days in Tofino last fall, 3 days kiting, all 10 SUP surfing and 7 short-boarding. Last vacation before baby arrived.

We have timed it the last two years with Queen of the Peak... nice time of year to be in Tofino :D
