Kitesurfing shop talk

Where do we put the kiteskiing topic! I want to get out this year, and have failed to the last few years. If i don't get out kiteskiing, I will be forced to sell my land kite.

Hey Laura - Good question - I've it to "Kiteboarding" since more kiteboarders than skiers/snowboarders do it.

Hope you can join AJ, Gabe and I snowkiting at Green Lake this winter. Only need 10 knots to get going.

Last year it started at Christmas on Green Lake.
But possible to go before that to Mamette lake, freezes earlier.
I can hardly wait!

I had 2 lucky sessions last year: 1 on New Years day and one actually isn't so lucky -- I was soaking wet with my ski pants/jackets. Surprisingly I wasn't cold though.

Would love to do it again this year. This Xmas I'm going to Calgary so hopefully I can get some session over there.

I was looking at the tempr. @Logan lake which is about 10 km from Mamette lake: -15 C! Also Tunkwa lake is nearby a resort where there is a web cam. The lake looks to be frozen. So I think the Mamette or Tunkwa lake is a go already. Would be nice to know when Green lake will be frozen?!
Can hardly wait!

What size of kite do you use for kite skiing/boarding for a 10-15 knot wind? I might try it out this year.

Cool ... You normally use a smaller kite so 11m or 9m kites should work for you.

Gabe is the king of snowkiting so we'll be watching for his predictions and reports.

Thanks Alton,
but I am no king of anything ...yet...
For the kite size you could use normally a size smaller, but greatly depends on the the snow/ice condition. In deep pow you have to go with the normal size just as you would in water. On hard packed or following already packed down tracks 1 size smaller, and on Ice anything that flies and stays in the air: think small as there is no resistance. On ice the problem will be to stand still! In that case you should use an anchor; such as an ice screw.
cheers

I have the cold feeling that Green lake is frozen already,
planning to check it out on Tuesday or Wednesday might get lucky with the
presently forecast-ed outflow 10-15 knots for Howe Sound...

Hey Snow Kite Leader - Let's hope temperature Thursday drops below zero for more snow not showers. Looking forward to your report and hoping to join you soon.
