We're going across, hopefully the ferry is not too busy.

BC ferries is asking if you're a resident , not sure of what, I'm assuming the island, and if you're an essential worker going to work.
Recreationalists are getting placed in another lane. Not sure what that means about getting on.

Also they are asking if you have a mask.

From a friend who went over earlier this week - the rec lane means an 8 hour wait.

Yesterday was great at Long Beach, decent waves and just enough wind. It probably peaked at about 22 knots.
Waves were waist to a few head high, with not much power.
People were on 4.6 to 5.3, and 90l and bigger boards.

Nice score, Ryan! Great pics, hope you can stick around for the next few days, unreal forecast for out there.
Keep an eye out for Canadian windsurfing legend Dan Thompson, word is he’s in the mix out there shredding it up!!

Session 1 – windsurfing - Pipers (2020 June 28)

Image
Dip. Quick “splash n’ dash” on the way to the west side. The 30 mph and 4’+ rolling swell was too much to pass up. Thanks to Windsurfish for the on-site OSR and to Eastside for the on-water company. One-hour stop to rolling again. Unfortunately the coast-to-coast was not to be this time (wind was just enough to stir things up but not enough for windsports). Decided to await to see what the morning brought.

Session 2 – SUP – Long Beach (2020 June 29)

Sweet sixteen. Late breakfast at camp then look-see at Long Beach, Wick, Cox Bay webcam and North Chesterman Webcam and returned to Long Beach. Looked like less work and more reward then yesterday so joined Johnny and Dan for SUP session just south of Incinerator on the low-tide. Turned out to be super fun and there smiles all around. Almost as much fun watching Dan hack as it was catching waves myself and party wave with Johnny! Great warm-up SUP session! Unfortunately Heather cut her ear when she took to the water after we came off – sixteen stiches later, she is better than new (an counting the minutes until she can get back out there).

Session 3 – wavesailing – Long Beach (2020 June 28)

Icing. Had just finished late lunch when Ozy sent out the call “windy”. It was still light, but the day was slipping away (almost 5 pm already) so time to get out on the water. Grabbed a couple wave middle beach before working my way up to tinies to join Ozy, Dan, BWD and Redbaron. Light wind slog and ride. There were some misses, but there were some moments too! Really impressive group to be sailing with. Very thankful to be on the coast (even if not SOC)!

Thanks Chuck, we met Dan, he was sailing very well. Thanks Michael, unfortunately it did not blow again, Tofino is very fickle, we were so lucky to get Saturday. Thanks Dave for the post.
