Missed last Sunday so wanted to get out today on the NW forecast. Headed to Garry Point Park as the forecast looked to keep the stronger winds in the strait but GPP usually gets a little more than Acadia and Tsawwassen. Arrived around 11am and there were whitecaps on the other side and it seemed to be picking up. Rigged my 5.3 and took out the 101L and slogged for the first half of the river then got planing and was well powered on the other side. There were small rollers coming through but as it was high tide there wasn't much current and not much for waves either. Sailed for about 45 minutes staying on the far side but saw a large ship coming up the river from the strait so headed in for a break. Went back out after it passed and noticed that the wind had dropped back a fair bit so had to work to get planing. Sailed until about 12:45pm and called it a day as I was slogging a fair bit of the time and the tide was starting to ebb. Felt cold at first but with the sun shinning I warmed up fast. Sand Heads' sensor said 20 knots and about 5 degrees which was about right. Nice to get out even though it wasn't epic.
