Hoped to score a raging morning session to start 2017 off right but it wasn't meant to be. Went to CNL and rigged my 5.3 and took out the 101L and got planing a few times but just when the waves started to set up, the wind died. The positive - getting good at slogging gybes on the outside!
Should have gone directly to PR at that point to at least get some surfing in but didn't pull the trigger early enough and left CNL around noon with about 5 knots of wind. CZBB was showing ESE 15 gusting to 22 knots at the time and everything South was lit up in red but not CNL unfortunately. I hope that my leaving was the much needed sacrifice to the wind gods as it looked like it came back up not too long after I left. Looking forward to reading how good it was this afternoon at the boat launch and GB's Beach in PR. :geek:

Hate to say it but we appreciated your sacrificial departure! Michael and I had a great 4.5/93l session from the boat ramp starting at 130. Water was cold but wind was warm and waves were clean. Could have used a smaller board but played it safe since it was my 2017 icebreaker. Great way to start the sailing year!!

After almost 3 weeks off the water, finally scored my first 2017 session ... and it was fantastic!

Morning shift was marginal SE 16-18 from 9:30am to 11am with disorganized waves cleaning up by 10:30am. Scored by Jack (11m), Lucas (12m), 8mdude (8m) and Darrell (windsurfing 5.3m)

Afternoon shift. After a long 2 hr wait the wind finally returned at 1pm with a vengeance. SE 25-30 with clean waist to chest high waves nicely spaced (40-50') outside (maybe due to shallow ebbing tide). Scored by James (7m+surfboard), Cash (10m), Roxstock (10m or 7m), 8mdude (6m), Joe (7m), Jerry (7m+surfboard), Alton (7m+surfboard), Brian (4.5m+windsurfer), Michael (4.7m+windsurfer) and C36 (windsurfer).

Sweet waves became chop at 3pm. Air temp was warm but water was COLD so called it quits at 3:30pm when I lost feeling in my feet. Great way to start 2017 with a wave session at 3rd Avenue.

Sorry Darrel but thanks for the sacrifice! Hope you can get out tomorrow. It's cranking at my place now, maybe we'll get some in the morning. :D Lots of fun today, nice waves and wind but water was frosty. Got some mega airs and some nice wave rides at the beginning, shared a few nice party waves with Cash on the outside. Went from the 102 to the 80 after a few reaches then back to the 102 near the end. Sorry I couldn't sail with Dave more but my feet were numb near the end.

Back. Reports from the beach were the wind was ‘soft’ so took in my yoga class. Then got the call ‘it was on’ so headed down. First session in my new-to-me van (electrical fire resulted in ‘total (insurance) loss’). Many thanks to M for proving me the ‘loaner van’ while I was shopping for the new gear hauler. Arrived to find Brian and M out on mid-fours and ninety-something boards. Rigged the same and took to the water. Chilly water, but warm air. Props to M for sailing without gloves (it was gloves for me after a couple of reaches in bare hands). Nice at first! Clean organized, fun-sized waist-high ramps all the way out. Then wind shifted south, wind wave angle inbound was awkward and tide started to flood. Hung around and got pushed down to Richard at Centennial. Then the wind rebounded and settled back in SE. Fun couple of rides before calling it. Was able to make it back to where I started. Nice of M to come back to watch at the end and chat. There was red ‘memorial’ chariot in the garden (my old van served me well and will be missed).
