I'll have to go get some pictures from high school in the '80's. I sailed and surfed there a lot. We use to launch from John Lawson and head down to Ambleside on the really big days as the beach closes out. The breakwater use to be a wharf and the break was best just east of it. It is also pretty awesome some days further east at the mouth of the river when the tide is covering the furthest sandbar (for windsurfing, not surfing) . Out in the riptide the swells get massive on big days..... like over 10 feet and its a bit of a washing machine.

As for the gear it was all gorge stuff. Mine was a Windance 7'11" and some Ezzy North sails.

Now I feel old!
