Ableside Pics

Kitesurfing shop talk

Found some pics from 2 winters ago (I think). Surfing is always fun here even if it is super nasty, and windy. Also the logs in the shore pound can be interesting.
This was before I got into kiting. Looked like a solid day!

Great pics, thanks for posting them, just like a good sunny day in Tofino with some wind. No windsurfer has ventured to do an aerial in Ambleside yet.

Those were the days, I am missing sandy ambleside when it goes off ... we haven't had days like that for quite a while now (a forgiving ramp to build speed, breaking twice). Best sessions I had were just before dawn (hb would read 1.2m+), one huge ramp just flying down, nobody around ... as nobody wakes up that early for surf in Vancouver.

That you have seen. Back in the day it wasn't unheard of to see guys throwing forwards on Hi-Techs and Gorge Animals at Ambleside and Dundarave on the rare strong southwesterly.

OK. I'll post when Ambleside goes off and sailable.
I'll even stop surfing myself and take photos when the jump happens ... better yet I'll contact ex Mulroney's PM photographer (who's now retired, lives close to Ambleside and took some photos of myself while surfing), and a 'globe and mail' newspaper veteran photographer who also took pictures of myself while surfing at Ambleside one early morning ... as they may be interested in making the windsurf jump official.

I'll make a poster of it and have you sign it ("first windsurfer to make a successfull surf aerial at Ambleside"). They'll even throw Stanley Park and Lion's gate in the background to make it even more landscapy.

Some rules:

(1)facial expression on aerial has to be of controlled calmness, no 'ballroom dance' smile allowed. 'shit has hit the fan' smile makes aerial null and void.
(2)there has to be a committed takeoff followed by some kind of effortless move where board is over sail and a proper upright landing.
(3) at least 2 meter off the water.

...other rules made up by fellow windsurfers as time approaches.

I'll contact photographers if interested, and we'll wait for the strait to crank 35-45knots NW.

If an old windsurfer ever tried a jump at Ambleside there are no photographs, and if so the pure weight of the gear must've made the jump lame (we'll classify it as a carbon jump, non-aluminum base).

10 years from now, a new crop of riders will say nobody has ever done an aerial at Ambleside, and they'll be clamoring to be the first.

ok. we'll make it the "the first windsurfer to make a successful jump @ Ambleside in the last 6 years" so nobody will get offended. We'll try to make it into a poster (hang it in some pub). dated photo to prove feat.
