Just go without a wetsuit and harness and that should cut off 10 lbs

See you guys up there today! For those driving from the lower mainland, remember there's the Sun Run going on so avoid downtown.

Email just received from Squamish Windsports Society...is it wise to go up today?

Good morning SWS members,

Due to the recent and ongoing fire at the Squamish Terminals, there will be floating debris and toxic smoke in the air for days to come. SWS has been advised by the BC Unified Command on behalf of Squaimsh District that recreational use of the waters is not advised at this time. "The docks are still burning and we are tearing it apart for further access to the core of the fire. Containment booms are being put in place but debris and smoke will be an issue for days to come." -Ben K, BCUC.

My good friends, is it really worth it? Squamish will be there all summer! Even a few days from now things should be better.

We don't know if the water is safe. SWS received that message from BC unified command. We will ask Terminals to do some testing but at the moment they are dealing with bigger issues for their business and are likely not concerned about recreational users who go in the water in spite of warnings.

I would not assume that just because you didn't puke yesterday that the water is safe. Nausea is a side effect of fecal coliform or other organics. The toxic soup we were warned about is said to be related to health problems including increased risk of cancer.

I have swimming lessons with my daughter today so the choice is easy for me. If I had no family commitments I don't know if I would chance it, just be aware that all the authorities including SWS are saying to stay out of the water.

Good point. Signs of cancer are long term so you'll be sailing at your own risk. Think I'll take another family day out of guilt :( Thanks for the cold shower :o

Good turn out today both windsurfing and kitesurfing. Double dip again on 7m kite and 4.5 m /83 L windsurf. No skin rashes, nausea and vomiting here.

Another great day in Squamish. The wind started earlier than yesterday and it was more consistent too. Low tide made some awesome places to practice wakestyle because if you crashed the kite you could stand up and not drift downwind. I think this was the longest day of kiting I've ever had in my life. 3.5 hours :D 29 sessions now.
