Looking to replace my old analog watch with a GPS one. Any recommendations? Garmin Instinct 2 has a surf model which has a windsurfing and kitesurfing setting, has anyone tried it?

Some “cheaper” ones read a little higher than say a Garmin.
Get one of those.

I use an old Apple Watch 5 (small size) and various apps for tracking, so you really don't have to spend a lot or wear a giant watch. The key is to keep the watch UNDER your wetsuit so that it doesn't get high speed water infiltration. Bonus, then it can still measure your heart rate.

If you like to track using a variety of apps for different sports or just too cheap to subscribe to Waterspeed, the most cost effective solution is to buy HealthFit app ($5 one time fee). This app auto takes data from other tracking apps and imports them into your iPhone ecos, even from free versions. You can then auto export them into Strava or other fitness and tracking apps as you like. HealthFit also has great metrics of its own.

Thank you for the replies,

I’ve considered an Apple Watch, the 1-2 day battery life is my biggest concern (ultra model is too pricey for a sports watch). Amazfit has a few options, but very few reviews from water sports users.

Garmin Fenix 7. I have the Fenix 6, I think good deals can be found but Fenix 7 has windsurfing activity but Fenix 6 does not.

I use bicycle activity and edit to windsurfing in Strava.

Battery life is 13 days. I charge about once every 10 days or so.

I think I'm going to get a Garmin Instinct 2, it is less expensive than the Fenix. The instinct is monochrome while the Fenix I think has a colour display and touchscreen. There are other differences depending on which Fenix model you're looking at.

My Suunto Ambit 3 is at the bottom of English Bay. Be careful with your straps, check them for tears and proper closure. I gotta think that whatever caused my Suunto to come off could easily happen to any other watch, and even more so for an apple watch.
