This will probably fizzle by the weekend, but in the event it holds, what are people thinking as far as spots? One of my best Acadia days for wave and wind angle was SW, though probably a bit more west in it than current forecast. The south pushed windswell would diffract around the UBC peninsula, increasing the period and changing the angle to be almost side-shore. It's been over 3 years since the one good day (September 20th 2015), so we are about due for another decent day there.

The tide will be high in the morning, so there will be water over the sandbank at Acadia. I guess true SSW winds that hold and are solid are pretty rare, so probably not a whole lot of feedback on what the best place to go is...

I've sailed Lily point a couple times on a SSE day that went SW and found it was best for the short time it was directly S as the waves from the SE push were still good sized and the wind could blow through unobstructed. When it went SW the wave size dropped quickly and the wind got really holey as the bluff created interference. Both times were around high tide though so it might be better with a lower tide as the waves would wrap earlier and you'd have cleaner wind as you would be sailing a little farther out. But the 15 minute hike down with gear is not fun, especially on the way back up when you're beat.

At LHP, it tends to be only shore break on a SW unless at low tide on the West side but nice ramps and chaotic water conditions right at the point itself. I've sailed there a few times on the transition from SE to SW and each time the wave size dropped quickly after the switch. Gulf Road in PR could be interesting at a lower tide but WR may have better conditions as more fetch.

I hope that is the case but Windguru GFS and G-Spot both showing SW (Windguru GFS is usually very accurate for wind direction for Boundary Bay) I'm thinking we are in for a SSW day.

If it is as strong as G-Spot shows now then White Rock will probably be the best option.

Ok, thanks for the input guys. Time will tell on final direction... If it is SSW, then wouldn't White Rock East beach be dead onshore?

A final possibility that either Brad or Gary told me about way back when, is 1001 Steps, a bit south of Crescent Beach. Right between Crescent and 1001 Steps looks like the most side shore option, but not sure about access, parking, etc.

Either Gary or Brad mentioned tasty waves (as far as local conditions go...) at this place, though I can't remember if it needed a specific tide/direction.

Listed highest to lowest (based on current SW forecast). I didn't include Acadia (ACD) in the list as I haven't ever sailed there in conditions that you experienced (I always find wind gets pretty funky when it spins SW and waves melt away).

Birch Bay (BB): It has the potential to set up as side-off starboard backside/port frontside riding. Unicorn spot (hard to hit) and it can be gusty and waves lack power, but reef like bottom (think CB) make for a predictable break (consist position and size). Needs a high tide. [Sample size of one.]

1001 Steps: Swung by here to look a few times based on Brad Russell's recommendation. It is the real deal (big rolling swell). Waves are better on low to mid-high based on what GB says 0.9-2.7m tide. Long walk down and back up (but less than half the effort of getting to Lily Point. Beware of the boulders in the shorebreak.

Light House Park (LHP): If your not in the mood for onshore on SW at WREB, LHP would be better on side onshore, but slack high could make getting in and out in the growling shore pound a touch tricky (you can hear the baby-head-sized rocks rumbling in the shore pound).

Lily Point (LP): What DB said plus with that hike you REALLY have to want it. To haul WS gear down there (and back out) is a big energy suck.

White Rock East Beach (WREB): Onshore on SW at WREB, but can turn briefly magical in side-on or sideshore if the wind rotates (but waves melt away quickly once the wind switches). Parking in the gravel lot is free if you arrive before 10 am.

Hoping for some uncivilized conditions tomorrow at White Rock.
