Great warm up day. Nice to be back in Maui, sketchy rental cars, stray cats, lots of stray cats and chickens. Also nice waves warm water and wind. :D Wind was up and down at times over powered and other times slogging. 5.4/97L Tabou Pocket and Gaastra Pure sails. A few nice sets coming in but breaking closer down towards kite beach. Some nice turns, smacks and rinsings. The atan surf bodies came in handy as I kicked the reef twice, I aways forget how shallow it is in places. :o Glad Johnny and Heather are here, it's nice to sail with friends, and they took me to a sweet food truck. By the time I got in there Johnny was sitting down having a chat with Kai Lenny, who recommended some killer Ramen and gave us the low down on Jaws. :D Love this place. Sorry, left the gopro sitting on the counter so no pics from today, tomorrow for sure!

For some reason, I'm imagining Kai talk about that ramen with the same tone/stoke he has in interviews to describe epic moments where he cheats death on 40' waves :D

Have fun, and remember, there's more room in loop club (for those who pay the entrance fee) 8-) Johnny and Heather, that's valid for you guys too :P

That's pretty much how it went. He was so super stoked about the "Special Original Ramen". It was delicious! Super nice guy.

Small waves and windy today. I started the day comfortably on 5.0/78L and switched to Heather's 4.5 rig mid afternoon with max downhaul and tried to hang on but was so overpowered on the wave I just got blown down the line. I could not de-power enough to make any turns. I eventually rigged down to 3.4 and rode some small waves. We saw 3-4 huge sets roll through that were logo or mast high but they were maybe once every 45 mins and I wasn't in position to capitalize. The swell eventually cleaned up for late session as we were approaching dark. Heather was able to capitalize and ended up being the last sailor off the water nearing darkness.

LOTS of wind, started 5.4 and was over powered then 4.7 and still over powered but it was fun having lots of juice in the waves so didn't go smaller.
A few nice waves, getting better at laying down the sail in the bottom turn and hitting the lip. One really nice smack I thought was going to turn into a nice aerial but I didn't have enough speed. Tomorrow could be epic.

Timing looks spot on in that last screen, Michael, nice!! Not sure if it's the GoPro wide angle, but looks to me like your front hand could be closer to the harness lines in the bottom turn, to get the sail even more laid down and pulling you over (not to go full interwebz coach on you from the depths of my windless, freezing office 8-) ).

Don't let the down the line action take your mind off looping

Challenging day! Mast high sets closing out and 10 to 40 knot gusts. Frustrating at times, so much work catching a wave only to be joined by 2 to 3 others then one hit and it would close out. Wind was side off so there was a big wind shadow between the reef and the beach so if you wanted to go in it meant a tough slog or swim. I ended up resting by just laying in the water, adjusting my harness while floating on my back then going back out. Still some epic moments, nothing like riding big waves.
