Wrong size bolt for SS Infinity 99.
"This is the story. After few nights below freezing the water got really cold and I took a short 71 cm mast off of my wife’s board. It saves me an extra 100 meters of wading. I assembled our second Slingshot foil using separate parts I bought over time and a set of bolts that SS sells. This is how I discovered that this set did not include long bolts to connect the Tuttle head to the mast. The shorter 8 mm bolts included in that set that I used are to connect the fuse to the mast in position “A”. My wife is light, and the bolts threaded only 5 turns held until I loaded them with my 200 lbs. After about an hour the threads stripped, and I was in the drink..."

Good recovery one reason not to go strapless, luckily the 99 floats. LOL

Nothing of note until 4:10.

I am torn into either keep on foiling and windsurfing or just windsurfing.

pros:
it is a good skunk saver
riding in silence is awesome

cons
It takes a lot of room to store and carry around
it is fun but not as fun as windsurfing is.

other factors to considerate:
I have a lot of money invested in it, so i could get some of that money back if i sold it.
I am the only one using it Caro is not into it.

opinions?

If space is an issue, kite gear takes less space...

(you can't see me smiling here but I am :) - I hope this is ok coming from a hybrid windsurfer/kiter)

So to your point, I met 2 reallyyyyy good windfoilers that completly switch to windfoiling and not windsurfing anymore.
The lady packs ALL her gear in her mustang, she rides the slingshot UFO.

IMHO it depends on where and when you want to get on the water. With Nexen closing for a couple years and the Spit such a zoo you need foiling gear to do local warm-weather sailing. But, if you mostly sail when travelling then you can go to windier spots and use windsurfing gear for more fun and less hassle.
In fall/ winter the foiling gear isn’t very helpful because many sailing spots are too weedy.
I’d like foiling gear for Porteau but it definitely needs to be designed for light wind (10-16 knots)
I agree that kiting is another light wind choice but I don’t want another big expensive sport and for very light wind I’d rather not do all the swimming that they tend to do when trying to kite foil.
You should talk to Francis about his experiences.

One more thought: At Nitinat there are a lot of days when Caro can windsurf but the wind is a bit light for you and you’d prefer foiling, plus you’re not having to pack and unpack the gear every day

This is why my foil gear is an accessory to another board which covers a higher wind range. So it let's me not bring a mast, boom and sail to cover 12-18kts.

For me windfoiling takes less space than windsurfing as I own a short single board that gets me out in all conditions I'm interested in sailing in, and requires less sails for local conditions. Having to haul around both fin and foil gear would be a huge hassle I imagine. Holding on to windfoil gear seems like a good idea given the imminent Squamish closure. It will be interesting to see the ripple effect the closure has on other spots and windsports in general in this part of the province.
