General input and experience?

The Slingshot system uses a Chinook tuttle box or adjustable track mount system. Most race foils, use a deep tuttle fixed mast. I know that the adjustable track mount is great, but I don't think for racing it would provide the support. For example, 100cm wide carbon board, deep tuttle box (not foil approved), 9.5 - 11 m2 sail, light wind. Do you think the Chinook tuttle box adapter on this carbon deep tuttle box would get destroyed with a lot of leverage; 245 lbs person with 10.0 m2 sail?

Ideal would be to have the foil box reinforced, but what bothers me is that the Slingshot Chinook tuttle adapter doesn't go as deep as other foil systems. Of course the solution is to get a true carbon racing foil in the future. Slingshot is really neat with choice of wings, fuse and mast.

Your thoughts?

Heavier riders using wide boards and big sails are using high aspect foils going for maximum VMG upwind. For general cruising you can use a narrower board and lower aspect wing with less sail.

At 210lbs I used a slingshot on an unmodified formula board but it was a bit of a mismatch in terms of strap position and the foil itself doesn't really respond to increasing sail sizes past ~7.5m

It doesn't bother you that Slingshot doesn't use a deep tuttle box adapter? They advertise it as deep tuttle, but in reality it is more of medium tuttle (Chinook). I think that the lateral pressure with a large sail (racing), largest mast and leverage of person would be a lot.

Doesn't bother me. I've attached a picture of the adapter I use to run it in a shallow tuttle, unmodified board.

Lots of Seattle guys use Slingshot masts in wider boards with large sails. Personally I think the wings aren't suited to more than a 7.5m sail and 80cm board but they seem to make it work.

What would your go-to foil be (manufacture) on a large sail (9.4 m2) / 100cm x 228cm? Are the new Slingshot carbon foils interesting? Kind of surprised not to see more larger, light wind setups up here.

I'd be looking for a used race foil with a longer fuselage (not the early F4).

I have been using the 8.2 Sailworks flyer and slingshot 160 levitator with i 84 wing and 42 stabilizer. With this combo I can plane very early in winds as low as 6 knots. Wonder how much wind the i99 front wing would need to get planing? :D

At this point I'm considering an alloy Moses with a 790 front wing: https://www.sailworks.com/the-gear/foil ... dfoil.html

I guess I'd be smart to start with the 75 cm mast, but then that's more $$ once I get past the initial stages. Ugh. I'd also consider getting the plate connector + tuttle adapter (my board is deep tuttle foil ready), for future proofing in case I get a foil board some day.

I'd really like to the AFS 85 but I don't know why their least expensive setup has that smaller front wing. They have a F-800 wing that but that's another $600US and is out of stock. The Starboard GT (1100cm2 front wing) can also be had for a good price but is probably harder to learn on than the 790 and sacrifices some low wind capability.

I don't really care at this point whether the foil/board is more suited to reaching or turny/surfy, I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy it all.
