Let's talk about foiling

The Moses I linked to was also an aluminum mast btw. One big difference between the Moses and SS deal is that the Moses is a 75cm long and the SS is 93 cm long.

Biggest difference is the Moses has a much better fuselage design.
Hopefully the anodizing is also better.

If you get a fuselage that is fixed be sure that whatever board you end up with the Center of Lift is between you legs for the wing, otherwise you will have to have to use excessive downward pressure on either front or back leg. I would enquire where the CoL is on the wing you are going to purchase and see how it fits with your board.

The Slingshot at least allows for moving the wing. I'm using a PB adapter (non foil board) with the Fwind1 pedestal mount. The mast is mounted in Position C (wing forward) and Pedestal mounted as far forward as possible. In other forums, with a SS fuselage, an additional hole was drilled to position the CoL

I have read quite positive reviews on ease of learning concerning the Infinity wings (76/84). I know one individual who had the original foil kit (Gamma 68) went to the Infinity 76 wing and was flying right away. There is also a new Infinity 99 wing released in Australia. SS will be introducing a new line of foils "Phantasm" (launch date unknown).

I am just a beginner foiler (flight time of 15 seconds or less).

If you do talk to either Bigwinds or Windance maybe enquire how the Chinese tariff will impact the price of future foils. I know the SS is made in China as the cardboard box the mast came in had the label "Made in China".

That Moses is slick for sure, but a 75cm fuselage would be a deal breaker for me. The Moses I rode had a 85cm fuselage and it felt short coming from a 95cm fuselage. 75cm is good length for SUP foiling, but I'd be happier with 95 and the less refined Slingy setup unless sailing location depth is a deciding factor.

I spoke with the Sailworks crew. Dale suggested that the AFS-85 or AFS-2 might be worth thinking about. The front wings's are a lot smaller than the Vento/Infinity but I think his opinion is that they are quite powerful which helps. We didn't talk about what the lowest wind range would be for the AFS. Dale also agreed that 85cm should be the minimum mast length I should look at.

The spec on the wing for the AFS-85 is 9-25 knots, beginner to Expert. I think this is the same front wing that is on the AFS-2.

Adam, which year of Wizard 125 do you have? 2018 and green? Dale says that some of the Slingshot boards don't actually have a full "deep" tuttle box, and this could be important if trying to fit a foil that isn't made by Slingshot. If possible, could you measure the depth of your tuttle box on the wizard?

My Wizard is the yellow and green one. I picked it up used from someone who was a pretty early adopter so it could have the issue, as it's relatively old All I know right now is that the Slingshot Tuttle adapter fits it perfectly. I'll see if I can get you some measurements soon. Something to consider also is that the mounting bolts on the Slingshots are wider than standard Tuttle bolts by a mm or two, so if the AFS uses standard bolts they could a bit narrow. I'd be shocked if Dale didn't know all about this. I feel like I've heard of people getting shim washers made to run other brands of foils in the Slingshot boards.

I can see why this might be confusing. SS’s webpage for the 150 https://www.slingshotsports.com/Wizard-150-Foil-Board shows a medium Tuttle. This page https://boardsportscalifornia.com/product/slingshot-wizard/ talks about a deep Tuttle. The smart thing for me would be to phone windance, ask them to measure the box, and hope they do it correctly.

Still not sure if the AFS 85 is the right move. Lots of reports of people learning faster on the larger wings.

Hi Shmish,

I got some measurements and found that my Wizard appears to have a deep Tuttle box, but the Slingshot Tuttle adapter is a medium or Chinook adapter. This would explain why if the 150 has a Tuttle box this adapter would work there too. Based on these pictures I took the Slingshot Tuttle adapter doesn't make it all the way up against the "ceiling" in the box, there's about a cm or more of open space. That said, it's a very secure setup. I hope this helps. Let us know your decision.

Tomorrow morning's Easterly forecast looks promising for windfoiling at Jericho. I had fun sailing one a couple weeks ago that was far lighter. Any takers?
