Hey Guys,
Monday will be very big at JWSP. All the models and both American and Canadian marine forecasts are calling for very strong onshore flow and a solid westerly gale. The local forecast is calling for 35-45 mph westerly winds Monday morning easing to 20-30 mph Monday afternoon.
Timing will be everything. The wind is supposed to switch west late Sunday night or early Monday morning. This will build the swell down Juan de Fuca Strait through the night until daybreak. Tides are setup perfect for steep waves all morning.
It's supposed to slowly back off in the afternoon. Monday isn't a day to hit the road late. Plan on going through the border around 0530 to be on the water by 0800. No different than getting up at 0500 to catch the 0630 sailing for Columbia Beach.
The only risk I see is it switching west too early on Sunday and powering out mid morning Monday. Check the usual actuals, Sheringham, Race Rocks, Smith, Ault Field and Oak Harbor. Monitor the forecast discussions and marine forecasts for changes in the strength and timing.
If I were home now, I wouldn't think twice about driving 4.5 hours each way for this forecast if the actuals are solid. This is a classic huge swell and big wave setup for JWSP. Much different than the moderate onshore flow and 15-25 mph local conditions forecast when Alton and Michael were down on Friday afternoon.
We'll see what happens...........
