Just checked Oak Harbour, Ault Field and Smith Island Sensors. Looks like it blew 15-25 from 8am until 3pm today then 20-30 from 3pm until now. Oak Harbour just had a 37 mph gust at 618pm. The Naval Air Base Taf shows West 23 Gusting 37! Marine Forecast was only 15-25 with nothing for Admiralty Inlet so I never bothered.........crap! Looks like it would have been a nice 5.0 day.

Chris I checked Smith Island before I headed to Point Roberts and it was about 20 knots but Ault Field was only about 10 so I passed. I'm keeping an eye on it though and hope to get down one more time before the season is over.

Hi Michael,

What time did you check Ault Field yesterday morning? Just looking at the hourly conditions yesterday between 0800 and 2000 and the lightest it showed was 15 gusting 24? Didn't expect any wind at all down there yesterday. This Friday/Saturday might have a solid SE session down there at Ebey. We'll see what happens........... I'll be at work in Azerbaijan by then.

Cheers,

Chris

I was looking at this but it looks like it wasn't recording properly, you can't see the gusts until around 6. It was probably between 10 and 11 when I checked, I remember thinking that Smith Island had dropped off a bit.

Is this the right sensor to check? Can you send me the links to the forecast you use? I'm always looking for a good day but I'm very uncertain of what is accurate. I noticed that the times we got skunked the METAR/TAF was way off. G-Spot seems to be close but NOAA always looks light.

Hi Michael,

I use this for Oak Harbour:
http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Observ ... n=USWA0309

I look at this for hourly Smith Island data:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/data/5day2/SISW1_5day.txt

And this one for Smith Island wind data updated every ten minutes:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/data/5day2/SISW1_5day.cwind

The continuous wind data will show the peak wind speed over the past hour and the direction.

I use this to look at pressure tendency versus wind speed and direction:

Cheers,

Chris

I'm looking at Friday now. What do you think? It looks similar to yesterdays forecast.
