Porteau Cove

Windsurfing shop talk

Hi Guys,

Does anyone windsurf at Porteau Cove? It's a bit closer than Squamish, so making a trip there after work seems like a good option.

I sailed there for a few years before heading to Squamish. It was great for 12-18 knot afternoons on a board with a daggerboard to get home when it quit. It is stronger in the middle and pretty hole-y launching. We used to camp and keep everything rigged a few weekends each year......... I'd say the drive to the spit is worth it and I've never sailed there since, but it is beautiful!

Thanks for the info David!

I just watched a drone video flying over Porteau Cove on YouTube, it looks amazing! I'll definitely check it out.

Thanks,

Pavel

I was actually wondering the same thing for kiting. Camping there in a couple of weeks and wondering if I should bring gear. Anyone kite here? Wondering if there's spots to launch/land.

I would think you could launch from the point at the campground, just south of the day use area. On a big kite you should be able to have great day heading up to Anvil Island. The only problem will be to pack it in early as it does shut down pretty quick when the day is over.
