I'm packed and ready to go for the first Horseshoe Bay ferry for breakfast and a nap. Unless there's a big forecast change, it looks like this is the day to try. Hope it works and I see some locals there.

Mike I've decided to take the 6:30 Horseshoe Bay ferry as well. I'll see you there.

Mike wrote:...Dave - Is there a reason you think mid day/ evening? I'm mainly looking @ BWD & the Comox airport forecasts. Also, the tide goes low in the afternoon (not sure if that matters at Columbia).

My opportunities to sail are based on when I can go - might not be the best time to go.

As for tide at CB, to my understanding you can sail there on any tide, but mid to high has more water over the reef. Best to look at the BWD wiki for info.

Click here to see a few shots from Friday (Mar 7) at Comox Airforce Beach. Duggan seemed to enjoy himself and I'd go back. :D ;)

Webcam (BWD) is up again, and I see 7 sailors and a kite out at 1pm. Looks flat but sailable so hopefully the Mainland crew is out having fun.

Got a couple of hours 5.9. Was generally like Centennial 5.9 conditions except for the huge lurking sea lions.

Most importantly - not skunked!! Glad the trip delivered some ToW, even if only a taster of what CB looks like it can deliver.
Might have been able to score similar conditions with a short walk from the boat ramp but Boundary Bay was owned by the kiters today, since the wind arrival corresponded with the water departure.

Nice day at Columbia, not epic like Mike said but still fun. Got another hour in after you left Mike, the wind stayed about the same but the waves picked up a little but you didn't miss much. Funny thing was after the wind had died and we were all packed up and ready to go the waves picked up.

Yes, the session definintly beat getting skunked (like Whidbey). Though, for me, it was better than just not getting skunked as it was my first session there and I got to meet some of the island crew. It would be nice to try again but its a tough call with the ferry costs and on big days it can be windy locally...
