Securing an Extra Sail on the Beach

Windsurfing shop talk

Hey knowledgeable Windsurfers. I'm planing my first local session of the season for Thursday (Probably Locarno).

Question. How do you go about securing an unattended sail on the beach while you are out sailing. I'm thinking of days when the wind is unpredictable so, you rig a second sail and have it waiting on the beach "just in case".

I am mostly concerned with:
1. Punctures
2. Being blown away
3. Theft

Cheers

No need to worry if your sail is sheltered from wind such as the grassy rigging area at Locarno.

Otherwise if exposed, lay down the sail pointing the mast in the wind then put some weight on the sail (eg. bags of sand or another windsurfing board)

Back in the days of yore, windsurfers commonly had 2 or even 3 rigs at the ready. It's not common practice anymore (unless you're a PWA pro) because sails are so much rangier now.
