3 Day Whidbey Trip

Windsurfing shop talk

by Chris Klohn » Tue Feb 18, 2014 2:51 pm

Hey Guys,

I ended up getting down to Whidbey a day early. On the water since 1000am lit on a 3.7 and 84L quad. 30 gusting 40 with 6-8 foot smooth swell on the outside. 3 other guys sailing here. It's supposed to be windy the next three days so we'll see what happens :) I'm staying at a friends in La Conner and will be on the water from dawn to dusk at either Ebey or JWSP over the next three days if there's wind. Come on down if it doesn't look great locally. Sounds like Centennial is raging away again......great to see.

Cheers,

Chris

i have a feeling if Alton, Michael or Dave try to join you the wind will tank - just sayin I think the wind there is has a phobia of them ;) . Glad to hear you are scoring some sweet conditions!

Hi Brad,

I have to agree with you :D Michael and Alton had so much wind and waves the first trip they couldn't get off the beach. The next two were brutal skunks.

The wind just tanked here about 45 minutes ago. I got four solid hours on the 3.7 in sweet 6-8 foot swell so no complaints. It's looking very bright to the west down Juan de Fuca. I have a sneaking suspicion that JWSP will start firing out of the west shortly. I'm driving up there in about ten minutes from Ebey and I'll wait until dark.

Tomorrow looks 50/50 for wind and Thursday 90+%. We'll see what happens I guess...........I'm not driving home until Thursday night. The locals are pretty confident it'll blow sub 4.0 out of the west on Thursday. Is Centennial still going off?

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Guys,

Just finished the fifteen minute drive from Ebey to JWSP and it's starting to crank out of the West now.............love this place! Looks like about 20-30 out of the WSW. I'm going to rig my 111 JP FSW and 5.7 Northwave ZX-SE and hang on.

There's still a big swell running out of the south from the 4+ hours of 3.7 SE wind this morning and early afternoon. Looks like some beautiful DTL conditions up towards Deception until the south running swell swings around to the west.

Nice sunshine and blue sky out to the west past Smith Island. Should be a good late afternoon session.

Gotta run now............

OSR JWSP........

Barely made it back alive on the 5.7. Rigging straight down to a 4.2 now. Averaging high 20's gusting to upper 30's straight out of the west. Sweet peeling 3-4' waves all along the shore. 35-45 knots further to the west, should crank until dark now :D

Cheers,

Chris

Morning Guys,

Just pulled into JWSP. The wind is blowing 20-30 out of the West. Beautiful 3-4 foot peeling waves and blue skies. The TAF shows 21G32 and the marine forecast 20-30.

Rigging 5.2 Surflite, Goya 84L Quad. Looks like another sweet day down here. Tomorrow's forecast is looking scary, sub 4.0 Westerly, JWSP. If it clocks west overnight and blows hard the waves should be stupid tomorrow

Hopefully see someone here if it's no good locally.

Cheers,

Chris

Holy cow. I'm still sore from yesterday (Centennial SSE 25-30). I'm heading up to Cypress to snowboard - a day of rest before tomorrow's westerly.

Thanks for posting the conditions Chris; nice to shore the stoke and I am starting to get a picture of how this place behaves. I can see trying to make it down there in the near future. Glad you scored a great forecast. Careful on big Thursday. I will likely try to sail the westerly in White Rock for now... 5 min commute to the beach

Hi Brad,

Just taking a break. Powered perfectly on the 84L Goya Quad & 5.2 Surflite. 20-30 out of the west still with nice smooth 3-4 foot waves. There are five kites and three other windsurfers out right now, all a
Washington locals. White Rock should be great tomorrow! I have a feeling I'll be on my 3.2 again.

Cheers,

Chris
