3 Day Whidbey Trip

Windsurfing shop talk

Hi Guys,

Been fully powered on my 5.2 and 84L Quad since 730am. Three other guys still out all powered on 4.7's. The wind has been a steady 20 knots with gusts to 30 all day so far. Nice fun 3-4 foot breaking waves with the tide going out close to shore and 4-5 foot smooth swell on the outside. Going to call it a day and have some lunch in the sunshine. I need to save some energy for the epic wave day in store for tomorrow. Yesterday's double session on the small sails torched my forearms...........can't complain though :D Hope to see some B.C. plates tomorrow if it doesn't crank locally.

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Chris, glad you got another nice session in today. Sorry I can't make it down there tomorrow as it's my sons birthday.

Is it pretty much 40 knots 24/7?

I wish Tony!!!!

$50,000 for a "vacation" home in Coupeville.......sign me up! It tanked at 1 pm today but is supposed to rage tomorrow. Local guys don't own anything bigger than a 4.7 and the trees grow sideways..........honestly. It's pretty normal to get the big SE followed by a big W every time a low comes through. With all that being said, watch me get skunked tomorrow in the pouring rain :( I'm sure it'll go off for you guys tomorrow too :D

Cheers,

Chris

Hmmm, think it will still go? Keen to check out this Joseph Widbey of which you speak. On the fence now with the local downgrade as whether to try it out tomorrow or hit the sure thing that is Mt. Baker for some snowboarding. Fairly nice dilemma to have all the same.

Hi Chuck,

I would take the sure thing over the almost sure thing anytime. Unfortunately, I don't have my planks or board with me so it's a wetsuit and JWSP or nothing for me. I hear 12" plus of pow at Baker tonight.......nice!

Cheers,

Chris

Morning Guys,

Just having breakfast then driving out to JWSP from LaConner. It's blowing 6 knots out of the south at Smith Island and the Naval Airbase. However, Race Rocks & Sheringham just clocked in the past hour. Looks like the westerly gale of 25-35 that was supposed to start late yesterday evening and taper off this morning is about 8 hours late..........perfect for daylight.

With some luck I'll get a good session for 4-5 hours this morning. The swell will be very small to start but should build quickly. It definitely won't be the logo to mast high conditions the locals were talking about yesterday but should still be excellent. I'll post again around 7am when I'm at the launch.

Cheers,

Chris

Sitting in my car at JWSP looking out at 5 knots, dead calm seas and light rain. Going for a nap.

Hey Guys,

The wind just turned on like a switch 45 minutes ago. Dead calm to a 3 mile wide wall of white racing towards the beach!

I rigged my 4.2 Surflite and 84L Goya Quad. The wind is solid right now averaging high 20's with gusts into the high 30's.

There looks to be another very dark band approaching a few miles upwind. Could be the 35-45 knots the central straight is seeing right now :)

The waves are 2-3 feet and breaking for about 50 yards near shore. The swell is waist high on the outside, smooth and building quickly.

Should be a wicked day!!

Cheers,

Chris
