I recommend freestyle wave (also called FSW, slalom wave, bump & jump) for local waves (wind swell at Boundary Bay, Acadia and White Rock). Slalom boards are better suited for flat water and will feel too rough in waves. Pure wave boards are too slow. FSW give you early planing and turn nicely in the waves with plenty of speed.
I weighed 190+ lbs when I was windsurfing more frequently (now 167 lbs) and 93L JP FSW worked well in 18 to 25 knots and 74L Starboard Evo for 25-35 knots. My typical sail range was 5.2m to 3.7m.
Hope that helps. Windsurfing in Boundary Bay and Acadia waves rocks! Don't miss it or you'll regret it.
