Windspeed at Squamish Spit - another boring winter subject

Windsurfing shop talk

Last summer the new SWS wind sensor was installed and we all enjoyed free wind reports. Alan did a great job and I really appreciate the time and effort he put into this project.

I found the wind speeds posted on the graph were on the high side of what I experienced on the water and I think I know why. According to the discussion on the kiteboardbc, the wind speeds posted in the graph were a bit increased (see details here ) so the graph would show accurate wind speeds at 20m height, which is the approximate kite height.

The actual sensor readings (@ approximate 10m height) would provide more valuable information to the windsurfers as those values are closer to the actual wind speed at the sea level. Using the same formula (reverse mode) I calculated what the actual wind speed would be for a certain value in the graph. I thought other windsurfers may use this info for selecting their sail (or not :D)
In the below table the first column would be the graph data and the second column would be the actual wind speed read by the sensor. The difference is 3-5 knots.

15 -> 12.4
16 -> 13.3
17 -> 14.1
18 -> 14.9
19 -> 15.8
20 -> 16.6
21 -> 17.4
22 -> 18.2
23 -> 19.1
24 -> 19.9
25 -> 20.7
26 -> 21.6
27 -> 22.4
28 -> 23.2
29 -> 24.1
30 -> 24.9
