Thinking of Punta San Carlos trip in October 10 to 17. How's the wind this time of the year?

Here is more than what I know (what I have heard): Wyatt/Tyson said their favorite time of the year - calm in the morning for wave-SUP then afternoon breeze for light air wavesailing in the afternoon. Kevin seemed to suggest that you're more likely to get NW swell in Oct (closer together, stronger, more power than SW swell) than in Aug/Sept.

October 2013 (Makani Clinic - small conditions to my eye)

It's hard to say what the conditions will be like but since you kite and windsurf you should have a great time. Surf or SUP when there's no wind and you'll have a blast. Hanging out with Wyatt and Tyson for a week is almost worth the price on it's own. :D I'm really interested to hear how it goes as I'm planning on going for 2 weeks next fall.

SHORT VERSION

When Kevin Pritchard was asked "When is the best time to go?" his answer was "Just pick the time you can go and do it!" :D

LONG VERSION

I was thinking more about my impressions of other times of year, having watched the videos by month listed here. From what I saw posted over on windsurfcanada.ca they got really weak conditions in Oct 2013 (an off year) and this seems to be echoed in the video. The wind seems light and swell size seems small to me compared to the videos of other times of year. They also seemed to have had a lot of 'free time' and energy for other things like hiking the mesa and costumed mountain bike rides. Although I have to admit I got pretty excited when I saw the wave-SUP shots from their trip! :D ;)

As for a comparison to the conditions we got, my sense is that 2013 Oct Makani clinics (two weeks) only got a handful of sailable days (versus our 8 sailable days in a row, albeit some pretty light ones) and I would be careful to compare the shots of conditions Tyson is sailing to those he sailed on our trip (evening) and to my eye our week got comparable wave size too (although we were not always on the water in the evening - lesson learned - save some energy for the evening set, particularly if its an incoming tide).

I also noticed that KT only sailed once while we were there and he is also shown kiting in the Makani video, so there must have been conditions on both trips that were good enought to entice him out onto the water.

Again, regardless when you choose to go, you will likely have a great time. Enjoy AJ!

Thanks for the info, Dave.

It's tough call given CAD dollar and wind uncertainty.

I used windguru when I was in La Ventana -- and their prediction was bang on. I wonder if it is the same in Punta San Carlos.

I will check the wind prediction in the next 2 weeks.

You can see here (second paragraph and click on the last three images) the forecast for us was pretty accurate (both wind and wave).

Sources I looked at:

Waves
http://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Pun ... sts/latest (hit on “7 Day” button)
http://www.surf-forecast.com/weather_ma ... type=htsgw
http://solspot.com/northern-baja-5-day-surf-forecast/
Magicseaweed doesn’t seem to have forecasts for spots in Mexico – I watched the ones for SoCal
http://magicseaweed.com/Mission-Beach-S ... eport/297/

Wind
High heat in LA can be bad for wind (from I understand), until it breaks then you get "extra" wind

Hope some of these links are helpful.

Ya thanks Dave, now I can't wait to go again!! Watching those movies and thinking about some of the techniques I learnt this summer from wake surfing really make me want to go wave sailing again soon!! Makes me look at a wave in a whole new light. This one is awesome too, another destination worth thinking about.
