Columbia River Extended Forecast
Issued Thu, Sep 3 07:30:00 by meteorologist Stuart Hill - Next scheduled update: 7:00 PM
Special updates issued as needed.
Cool pattern continues with SAT being the bright spot for Gorge winds in the extended.
Friday Upper Low continues to meander over Western Oregon sending another wave of moisture our way. More showers for the Gorge, weak unsettled westerlies and cool air abundant. Late in the day, as the trough moves more eastward, west winds pick up Central to NearEast. PM northerlies gain momentum with surface high pressure setting up on the Coast.
Saturday Improving pattern as the upper trough slides eastward allowing surface high pressure to fill in along the OR Coast. Westerlies gain some speed in the Gorge, mid 20's range likely, possibly higher at times, while northerlies focus on the South Coast.
Sunday Upper trough now well east of the Gorge but the mechanics really aren't in place to fire up significant winds. Surface pressure remains weak onshore w/ generally cool temps for the eastern deserts. Gorge winds peak in the mid / upper teen range for Central / NearEast sites while the Coast north winds recover, filling in Central and stronger, South.
Fri, Sep 4 2015
Looking like upper trough will deliver a round of cool showers, possible thunderstorms for the region, with weak early winds for the Gorge; some NE winds out past the John Day. Then, late day mid to upper teens fill in, Central to NearEast, behind the clouds. If the timing is early, this could amount to maybe low 20's....Jones Beach, WNW mid to faint upper teens, with N mid to upper teens, North Coast. Mid teens to near 20, NNW Central, and near to low 20's, South Coast. W-NW swell 4-5 ft.
Sat, Sep 5 2015
Probably the best setup for Gorge winds in the extended w/ Central to NearEast sites reaching low to mid 20's in the afternoon. Low to mid 20's out East, upper teens to near 20 West Gorge. Meanwhile for the North to Central OR Coast, sub to low teens NW to WNW, while mid to faint upper teens NW winds remain for the South. SW swell 5 ft.
Sun, Sep 6 2015
Westerly flow on the decline overall as the next weak upper trough approaches. Corridor and NearEast sites will flirt with occasional mid / teen breezes but not expecting much (if any) PM build. Along the OR Coast, winds fill in along Central beaches, mid to upper teens, with low 20's South. Light WNW winds on the North Coast and at Jones. SW swell 4 ft.
