Strong cold front passage with high pressure building behind forecast for Friday night / Saturday. Potentially a great setup for JWSP.........worth watching for sure.

Morning tide looks challenging. Afternoon looks doable.

Hey Alton,

They are forecasting a +6 millibar pressure gradient weakening to +3 millibars from Quillayute (UIL) to Bellingham ( BLI) at 12noon on Saturday. This gradient equates to sustained wind speeds of 20-30 knots in the eastern strait of Juan de Fuca with local gusts to 40 knots. For reference, the gradient strengthened from +0.9 to +2.2 the evening C36 and Chuck got a session. The next run of the GFS should show some darker pretty colours as the pressure gradient forecast is revised 4 hours prior to the graphic you just posted. There should be a Gale watch issued for Friday night through until Saturday at noon on the 230pm NOAA marine forecast today. One thing is for sure, you want to leave EARLY to be rigging first light on Saturday at JWSP. Not a morning for going through the border at 1000am. Should be some sweet steep waves with the tide dropping in the am hours. Hope you guys get a good one for sure :D

If you can't make it to JSWP and you are stuck in Vancouver, and Jericho is cranking for some odd reason at 6pm Sat ... you may want to head to Ambleside (6pm-8pm) as tide at that time is the best it can be for surf at Ambleside (if it manages to get to hb0.9m) ... you'll have 40 meter surf for kiting/windsurfing.

Check cameras in West Van at that time:

but NW is always changing, computers just can't forecast 3 days in a row anymore.

Still looking great for Saturday at JWSP. The mention of South 30-40 knots until 12am in the TAF and gale force westerlies may "linger" into the evening in the marine discussion both point towards a slightly delayed frontal passage.......good news.

Still an early setup where you want to be rigging up at first light and maximizing the waves, wind and time on the water. The switch from southerly 30 knots to westerly 30+ knots at Smith Island will take an hour or less. There's typically only 12 hours or less of solid wind before the pressure gradient relaxes after frontal passages.

Using C36's TOW=Driving Time, plan to leave the house at 5:30am to sail from 8am-12noon and be back by 2:30pm :D

WindGuru and G-Spot shows strong westerly arriving Sat 2pm. NOAA Eastern Straits looks good. Afternoon tide looks very civilized. Let's wait and see what Whidbey Island NAS TAF forecasts. Under consideration.
