OSR 3rd ave. feels like 25 knots, guys out on 7-10m kites. The tide has dropped off enough to be arable to launch from the beach and all of the logs sem to be left on the beach giving clear access to the water. Going to pump my 7m now

No logs when I arrived at 8.15 am and launched at 8.30 am. But after that logs just kept coming so not my fault.

Love my morning exercise today. 1 1/2 hour session: 3.4m/68L then switched to 3.4m/83L

Police at the beach came to stop me and told me no kiting -- too dangerous for today. Apparently he can't tell the difference between kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Mine included a hour long swim. Just wanted to say thank you and sorry to everyone who stayed around and helped me out. I should have known better! It was awesome while it lasted but I saw the signs the wind was shifting and kept sailing. A few nice big gusts kept me going then nothing, it shut down fast just as Alton had warned. I was able to practice the Wyatt Miller self rescue he taught us by de-rigging and tying everything down. The only down side is if the off shore wind had of picked up again I would have been screwed as once you've got all your gear apart your only option is to swim. I was surprised and embarrassed to see all the people, cops and ambulance waiting for me on the beach though. The paramedics gave me a great check over, were very impressed by my heart rate and asked if I was going to swim the English channel next. :D Thanks again!!

Jeeeez Michael! I believe we need to give you a risk-taking-implying nickname :D I've never had to do one of those complete derigs in deep water and even more so in big swell. How difficult was it to do/roughly how long did it take you to get it all sorted before swimming??

Also, please tell me you'll be coming out with an epic GoPro edit of the derigging + swimming + ambulance and cops (preferably to the tune of the Prodigy)

Sorry to hear about your workout there Michael Phelps, it's hard to call it quits and come in when's it's a sweet SSW. Maybe your the new Michael 911, I think Chris once described a 2 hour swim back to shore as leisurely or brisk.

For those that haven't enjoyed a self rescue, Heres a great photo of a de rigging sequence that won't lose any of your gear. Glad your in safe and ready to go again.

Thanks Richi, I was hard to call it quits as I was just starting to get in some nice front rides and the ramps set up so sweet when the wind died. Managed to get in one bottom turn and that was it. That's pretty much how I did the self rescue but wasn't able to paddle back like that guy does in the photo. My 80L just rolled over every time I tried to get on it but it was way easier to swim with than when it's rigged.

Is that a swimming pool? What about real waves with 50 knots wind?
