MANY years ago (when I was just out of high school almost 30 years ago circa 1986), I had a shorboard mounted with a base (see picture) that I used to ride over 100 miles to school in 3' of snow!!! OK, ignore that last part.
It was great for practicing in light wind and when I couldn't get to the water. I leaned how to duck-gybe on my wind-skate.

Note no pads or helmet in the pictures.
Then I heard of a pro-windsurfer who was killed riding one in Europe.
I never enjoyed riding it much after that.
Make sure you wear a helmet there young fella!

Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal. Seriously, check out the parking lots at Spanish Banks, Lulu Island (YVR) or check out some of the big box retail stores/ movie theatres in Richmond.
