Had a good 5.0 session out of Newport (Nexen) today. Bit crowded with kiters displaced from the Spit, but the wind was strong enough to sail up to the cliffs, away from all of them.
The southern tip of Newport, including the grassy point, was closed due to the pile removal work. They also had a boat anchored off the grassy point that you were required to stay offshore of.
It was unclear what the status will be on Friday and Saturday. I spoke to the security guard and he said they hope to be finished by Saturday and fully reopened, but it looked unlikely to me. Some of the local sailors also said they heard the beach may be closed completely (during the work) if people misbehave and the contractor decides it’s unsafe.
If anyone encounters a full closure, a posting on wtfbc would be appreciated.
