Hey Brian. I was camping there this weekend and got out both Sat and Sun. 7.2 135 was fantastic. Thre of us out. Others were 6.6 on a go board and a 5.6 on a roberts slalom.
Warm salty water and relatively smooth water. We launched right off the beach at our campsite.
My first time sailing there. I bet Squamish was cranking but what a treat to try Porteau.
Craig.

Hey Brian and Craig
I thought exactly the same thing but ended driving all way to Squamish where it nuked 4.0
Where would one launch from if not camping?? With half the drive of Squamish, on a heavy Squam day it seems like the perfect spot. Or after work...

On an inflow you park in the day use area near the boat ramp. There is some grassy areas right there by the picnic tables or rig down on the beach to the south of the pier. I think you could plane right off the beach especially at low tide. Down at site 42 we had to get out to the wind but it was maybe 200 ft offshore. Could hold a plane right back to shore at low tide.
The reaches are wide there would have to measure on a map but 3-4x what squamish is....fun days.
Bit of swell out in the middle.

Craig’s description is right on. I had no problem planing from the beach during yesterday’s low tide. When the tide is high you have to walk a bit upwind to get the best wind exposure when you launch.
Noting how windy it was at Squamish yesterday, Porteau is only worthwhile on strong inflow days
