Graph looks good. If anyone did get out at Squamish today (May 2) I would be curious to hear:
  • if the wind was SW (my guess) or W (as the iW graph shows); and
  • if it the wind was solid (as the graph is showing) or gusty.

Many thanks.

I wasn't there today, but today's graph of data from Squamish Terminals
shows SW. This is as one would expect at Squamish with reasonably normal wind.

The iW and the Squamish Terminals sensors are located quite close together (on the souther edge of the southern building at the port), so the iW sensor's direction has, well .... seemingly lost its direction.

Speaking of sensors, the SWS wind sensor system normally comes online between May 1 - 15. I've tested and prepared it for its seasonal installation, which was recently attempted by SWS, but some surprises appeared. Stay tuned.

My first 2018 Squamish session was pretty awesome. Scored 2hrs (2-4pm) on 12m + twin tip in steady SW 20-22 - perfect for boosting. Close to 4pm started getting overpowered, holey and gusty so called it a day. Even with sandbars exposed, the river was rather choppy so stayed around the honey hole.

Further to Dave's questions. Direction was good. Wind in and out of the river. Like Alton said, wind was steady. Graph was quite actuate and included the little dip at 1pm. I rigged assuming the wind was on the rise but the dip put me underpowered so rigged up. Then wind was on. Bigger (5.3) was still good (didn't rig back down) and probably better out of the river. Lots of seals!

Hey Dave,

I was up in Squamish today too and I had a blast on my Gyro sailworks 5.2 and 80L Kode.
2 hours from 3 to 5pm with steady wind. Sailed with Jamie, Ross and Francois. The wind was from the SW as usual. Nice day in the sun and good day to call sick LOL :D
EC is calling for rain in Vancouver on friday. That change of weather pattern could bring lots of wind potentially in Squamish with the suck up effect . Ross told me it was blowing crazy last friday with 35 knots wind.

The forecast for the Spit on Friday is pretty awful.

Alan/Alton/Mike/Nicolas: Thanks for the info (iW sensor W = SW and speed is pretty accurate). Many thanks.
