Way better than expected for a cloudy day. Steady SW 18-22. 3 hrs of fantastic boosting conditions and smooth water on 12m+TT. Plenty of kiters but not crowded. Only 1 windsurfer.

Nice clear skies this morning. I am heading up to give it a try, hopefully out of Nexen.

Good day out of Nexen, with a few qualifiers:
- wind was quite patchy so a slalom board really helped. Futura 111 with a 6.0 worked well for me.
- the salmon are heading up the river to spawn, which means you have to look out for dead floaters. Only saw a few today but I think I hit one. I recall a few people damaging their boards in previous years when they hit fish and were launched
Despite this, the wind was really good out by the cliffs and it was still warm like summer today. Saw a happy seal eating one of the salmon too. Nice day for September at Squamish.

Fun sunny day at Squamish. Good boosting on 12m+TT in steady SW 18-22 in the first hour before becoming gusty. Switched to 9m+surfboard in gusty but manageable WSW 25 for another hour. Surprisingly busy for a Monday. Doesn't anybody work?

BrainC:

What time were you on the water? I'm curious to match rig/board combo with wind speed shown in the Graph.

I launched at 1:15pm and returned to Nexen at about 3:15. The wind direction clocked to favor Nexen right at 1pm. Suddenly the bay was full of whitecaps. Prior to that the flag at the end of the small Nexen spit was blowing directly from the left; always poor for Nexen because the bay is in a wind shadow in that circumstance. Nexen is best with some west in the wind direction, which is also why it became gusty at the Spit at that time.
As mentioned in my post, the wind was the cleanest out by the square-faced cliff upwind of the Spit. That area isn't affected by a westerly (SSW to SW) direction like the river mouth is. I usually prefer using a slightly bigger board and sail at Squamish so I can get up to those cliffs to enjoy the good wind and uncrowded waters.

Surprisingly awesome day at Squamish. First hour in gusty but manageable WSW 20-25 was good for boosting at the Spit on 9m+TT. Switched to surfboard for another 2 hrs of fun in steady SW 25 outside away from the Spit. Knee high waves were well organized and steep. Lots of toe side hits with fast bottom turns from upwind down to Nexen then cranked upwind ... and repeat, repeat, repeat ... Had to stop when my legs started to burn.

Only a dozen kiters today but 4 windsurfers including Jamie and Terry.

Squamish delivered steady SW 18 today. Good for 12m. Smooth flat water to start but became really choppy after the first hour. Got crazy crowded after 3pm.

Doesn't look too cloudy today. Too bad I have commitments this morning.

P.S. No more SWS rescue
