The updated models are still showing a better than 50% chance the low will pass to the north of us which is the best situation.

Checkout the latest marine synopsis for Saturday they mention sweeping northeast and northern Vancouver Island.........both good news!!

Coworker's mom was the only person that passed away by a downed tree on the last big storm while sleeping.

The 37-57 mph forecasted (which translates to 65 knot gusts) at 1am on Sunday is 30% higher than last storm (remember Alton chose to skip with reason, and it was double overhead at 1001) .Warn family members and friends to sleep away from trees located SE of their property. Probably the windiest, as forecast is not downgrading.

GB........you mentioned Cliff Mass earlier. By far, one of the best wx gurus around to pay attention to if you really want to get a good idea of what happens locally with our winds. I've got a few of his books and papers kicking around from 18+ years ago :D

A quick glance at the kind of detail available for anyone interested in weather...........

Chris, my brother sent me that email ; because I am 15 min away to local breaks I can get away from heavy analysis, checking forecast 3 hours in advance has been enough, I know if I move I ll need that book.

Today was fun , 20 minutes of Chestermann- like waves around 7:40am. The US customs guy was more worried that the park was closed and about my safety. At the marina, 5 fishing vessel going out, , a captain looked at me with with surprise, I waved , he waved.Nobody around like old times. 15 minutes later I was working. My postings are minimal now.

Saturday I see an upgrade at 9pm, 41-65mph, naive to think the lower mainland is prepared for this. Never seen this peak in my 7 years surfing locally. Of course I ll be at PR from 5 pm, home by 7pm.

Tomorrow 11-1 is almost certain, expecting medium surf, 2 sessions there. Why? Halibut bank got to 1.1m today at 7am. Expecting HB to hit 1.3m tomorrow at 12 ... I know hb is far , but there is a link. I was at PR on a 2.6m day and tomorrow is not it. Sat night may be a 3m day by 10 pm.

Hey Alton,

Don't write Saturday off as an onshore easterly day. Plus or minus 20 miles north or south is the difference between the strongest SE storm we've probably ever seen since we've been into wind sports and a 30 knot onshore day at 3rd.

One guaranteed place for wind is Useless Bay or Double Bluff. Epic conditions very similar to Centennial in the big stuff. The tides are perfect to with lots of shallow water and exposed sandbars. Talk to all the local kiters that have been down there!

I wouldn't even waste a second thought driving down there bright and early Saturday. Rolling the local dice and hoping 3rd backs SE is crazy. You are guaranteed an insane session in a historic storm if you head to Double Bluff.

Through the border at 0600 and rigging by 0815-0830 with perfect tides and the whole day of wind ahead of you :)

Go for it!!!!!!

Cheers,

Chris

Frankie is the real deal. You know if he's hyping a storm in your neck of the woods it is serious.
