This morning looks like clear sky between Squamish and Lillooet. Could be an early start today. Hopefully clouds will roll in later than sooner.

Fun day at Squamish with 3 boards.

1. 30 min morning session on 12m+surfboard in WSW 18-25 with some holes but way too strong 25g30 in the river.

2. 1 hour windsurfing on Francis' gear (5.6 Hucker+120L Fanatic slalom). What a rush blasting between the Spit and Nexen. Best wind and waves at the far end of Nexen. Oddly wind was S 18 at the Spit but W 20 at Nexen. Finally started making my gybes.

3. 1 hour on 10m+twin tip. Got the courage to try back rolls. 8 attempts all fails. One got 75% around. Plenty of tomahawks and lots of body dragging. Difficult to load and pop in gusty conditions (S 15-25 gusting 30) near the honey hole.

Yes, it was a better day in the clouds than I expected. I was testing out an old 5.5 Retro that a friend gave me, hanging onto it in the 330 - 5pm peak wind. Amazing range if you use the adjustable outcall as Bruce P advocates, and way lighter feeling than the more recent X-Ply versions. It may be suitable for Mokka's light-wind (largest) sail. My 6.0 is too heavy for her to enjoy.
Weird wind/wave combo right off Nexen in the late afternoon, but as you noted it was smooth over by Shannon Falls and fun in the flatland on the lee side of the Spit. Got almost all my jibes (Alton, keep practicing 8-) .)

I think Alton, you should keep an eye on slalom gear, yes it's addictive.
I am not a skilled windsurfer in any way, but I've had 1000's of sessions with my old 130 litre carbon Roberts racing board, and now a 7 meter severne overdrive cam sail (15 inch fin) once that beast gets into planing mode you are in for a ride. Francis wants me to move straps farther back. Smooth water (East wind at Jericho) with just 14 gust and it will sustain planing on 12-13 knots. It's like it does not have a max speed, the more wind the faster you'll go, leaning back with strap/harness on 15-20knots which does not create much chop is the sweet spot. .... you can move back to the dark side once it gets over 22knots.
65kgs.

There is something about bottom mast being at the centre of gravity and sail at a fixed angle of wind that makes it more efficient for speed. Kites have the height advantage off the surface ,but loses efficiency as some energy is lost on the upward vector push and kite angle is not fixed by a mast. Windsurf sails don't need much upward vector once planing... follow the light Alton.

So proud of my student. Haven't forgotten his roots and still in one piece with kiting
